I don't know if too many of the people he talked to came off all that well (though they were not speaking their first languages) but guys like the pastor always strike me as weirdly innocent and childlike. Surely he knows that there are non-religious people in Georgia? Surely he knows that various American Christian denominations are okay with gay marriage? What has he been doing with his life?

It's a pretty cool group of Runes, who are more proud of that heritage than the Christianity that was forced upon them. Is going into an IKEA in Scandinavia more "normal," like the way Americans like me might go just to a Home Depot? Because that'd be awesome. Doubly cool if the Home Depot hands out American Flags and grills hot dogs all day in Scandinavia.

I was expecting him to be a militant jerk, but he's just a lost little puppy dog who's never seen the world before.
You just know everytime he goes "Wow...wow," he's processing this amazing revelation that these people who aren't Christians are perfectly nice human beings. That and he's probably thinking, "I bet these people use CONDOMS. And they've probably seen more than one pair of boobs. Do all boobs look the same? Am I going to Hell because I wondered that?"
