I knew enough about computers to know how full of shit this movie was, but still thought it was fun.
It's a neat take on the rogue AI trope.

I actually kinda like this movie. Better love story than Twilight, etc. etc.
Unfortunately, it's one of those buried-in-time movies that's never seen the light of day outside of early edition VHS. The whole movie is on YouTube, but there's never been a release in forever.
The soundtrack is also a bit tricky to get a hold of.

A guy buys a state-of-the-art (by 1980s standards) desktop computer and loads it with some engineering and architectural design software to help him design earthquake-proof buildings. He also wires it into his house so it can operate lights, control appliances, alert him to possible break-ins, etc.
He then accidentally spills some champagne on it which magically transforms it into an AI.
After he gets it dried off and put back together, it seems to work fine so he leaves it running the simulation programs while he goes to work. The program runs earthquake simulations and tweaks the designs to try and improve them.
The microphones attached to the computer pick up the sound of the guy's new neighbor, an attractive musician, practicing her cello. The computer, intrigued by the music, abandons the task of making earthquake-proof buildings and starts recording the music. After a while, it starts making some music of its own and plays it through the speakers. The woman thinks her neighbor is flirting with her by turning her solo into a duet.
The woman meets the guy outside the apartment and the attraction is mutual. Unfortunately, the computer also loves the neighbor. It becomes a weird sort of variant of Cyrano De Bergerac with the guy pretending he's writing the music the woman fell in love with and the computer getting angrier at the guy for not introducing her to it.

infinite zest - 2015-05-09 Yeah, judging by the antics there's a ton more going on, but Her was pretty much computer love (or iPhone love) at its core. I fell asleep trying to watch it, but it's like Her falls for Him, but Him gets a real Her, which pisses off Computer Her.. something like that. I think I'm also getting it confused with that episode of the Boondocks where the grandpa gets the iPhone mostly so he can use Tinder and Siri continually fucks with him and blackmails him into marrying him. Antics ensue.
