ONLY ONE OF US CAN HAVE USE A CLOUD CHAMBER AS LAVA LAMP YOU SUCKSACK! AND THAT ONE OF US IS ME!

urbanelf - 2015-07-07

Joe, screenshots, please.

Killer Joe - 2015-07-07

So who wants to make the damning screenshot collage that will prove us to be the true original kings of snippy one-liner bullshit?

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

PoeTV doesn't have jokes.

Seriously, you think this site is funnOH YOU MOTHERFUCKER YOU TOOK MY HATS COMMENT YOU MOTHERFUCKER!

BURN HIM!!!!

BURN HIM!!!!

*calls the gay mafia*

That guy - 2015-07-07

***** classic

Also, fuck that motherfucker for stealing your bit. It's a good bit and you wrote it.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

You know what burns me the most?

The Donald Trump video. He not only stole my comment, he sanitized it for his lame-ass audience. Imagine you're Eddie Murphy and someone steals your jokes and strips all the swearing out of it so as to appeal to Cosby fans.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

Ha ha ha, he stole TeenerTot's comment on the Ted Cruz Giligan's island video, but my song.

My song was too hard core.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

PoeTV, I'd like to say, I'm awesome. He stole a LOT of my shit.

I win.

I would put "I write Brain Harrod's jokes" on my business card, but he'll probably go ahead and put it on his, so I don't have to.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

Nobody call New Canaan Floor Cleaning at (203) 559-2555 and tell them they're supporting a hack like Brian Harrod. That would not be nice to do and I would never write a joke to encourage it.

Here at New Canaan we specialize in cleaning dipshits from google+ since 1990! Thanks to the publicity we got from Brian Harrod's completely embarrassing business practices, we've become known as the favorite cleaning service for hack joke thieves the world over! We've even received Dennis Leary's Lenny Bruce Award!

Wait, can I get a "cleaner" discount for the gay mafia?

Seriously, Brian, this is unfair to your sponsors, and I know you're reading this.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

My shit is far to meta for him to even understand, he'd pretty much have to repost my entire history for the joke to translate.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

Yeah, now that I think about it I have to question whether or not I, myself, am a hack, since he did steal my jokes.

Are my jokes hack friendly? I have to go pray to Bill Hicks for guidance.

chairsforcheap - 2015-07-07

wait i live right near new canaan

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

Chairsforcheap, come visit Providence some day.

That guy - 2015-07-07

naw meme, you write good shit

M-DEEM - 2015-07-07

Dude took my veggie bots comment and made it worse... :(

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-07-08

>>The Donald Trump video. He not only stole my comment, he sanitized it for his lame-ass audience. Imagine you're Eddie Murphy and someone steals your jokes and strips all the swearing out of it so as to appeal to Cosby fans.

I'm imagining that I'm Eddie Murphy right now. My dick is HUGE!

If this is the person who inexplicably reprinted my tribute to the late Mr. Food, I'm grateful that he removed the reference to "the weird way he set off my gaydar." Incidentally, my gaydar is terrible. How terrible? I still haven't figured out if I'M gay.

memedumpster - 2015-07-08

Here's what you do.

Close your eyes and imagine Mr. Food's hairy asshole. If you get a boner, you're gay.

I have no idea who Mr. Food is.

StanleyPain - 2015-07-07

He's doing it on facebook as well. Wow...I'm surprised it took this long for something like this to happen considering how long places like SA and Ebaums and such were ripping off all of our daily submissions.

What a piece of shit.

StanleyPain - 2015-07-07

Oh wow...a few of my comments are being used as the descriptions here. Wow...what a fuckwit.

That guy - 2015-07-07

I can change the fuckwad tag to fuckwit if necessary.

That guy - 2015-07-07

...or just 'Carlos Mencia'?

urbanelf - 2015-07-07

Stanley, take screenshots.

Bort - 2015-07-07

Did ... did he use any of mine?

I mean, so I know how angry I should be at him.

urbanelf - 2015-07-07

Only one way to know. I will now use my computer skills to build an elaborate robot of justice based on blue-sky research.

I live for this shit.

urbanelf - 2015-07-07

OMG! They stole one of my comments!!!

One the barmixvah robot video... I said something like "let's see if this guy can 3D print himself a personality" and there is it.

I'm so mad.

15th - 2015-07-07

Screenshots are a good idea. At the very least, he won't ever be able to sell his piece of shit.

Hugo Gorilla - 2015-07-07

So which one of us is Brian Harrod? Which one of you is the Judas that betrayed Chet!?

That guy - 2015-07-07

How rad would it be if Chet came from outta nowhere and sued him and he lost his house and wound up killing himself?

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

Personally I'm hoping that Ben Schumin is behind this.

Gmork - 2015-07-07

I keep my PoETV plagiarism to reposting particularly good comments on youtube. Sometimes the people in the youtube comments just deserve to have a nice succinct explanation as to their idiocy tossed their way. Sometimes what's said is just too good not to throw in somebody's face.

However... Trying to actually monetize and start some bullshit social media thing BASED on PoETV plagiarism? That's kind of sad.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

One time I copypasted one of the unironically good, longwinded political posts from some video on here into an email conversation about the death penalty and the need for prison reform, but I had the decency to disclose that it was not my own work.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

Once, while drunk, I tried to use one of Infinite Zest's stories to get laid.

Scrimmjob - 2015-07-07

I've tried that using some of waugh's comments, it's probably worked equally well.

That guy - 2015-07-07

....so this is secondary to Brian 'The Turdburglar' Harrod and his turd-burgling, but I finally figured out how to get Choco J to upvote something of mine in the hopper!!

Also how much of a namby-pamby do you have to be to not think your own jokes are better than a whole bunch of other people's? So- ripping off Louis CK, I get. Ripping off just a buncha amateur hams, you gotta have no sense of humor or pride for that crap.

Potrod - 2015-07-07

I don't know, I kind of get the impression that his whole page is just a bot-like click/follow generator more than an actual person trying to make a name for himself. For a little bit I thought it WAS a bot that just took content from other aggregators and a random comment to get follows, but it looks like some manual input is required. I don't know enough about how social media works to know what you can get out of having 11,000 followers--when they get to a high enough number of followers, can't they then sell the account to actual advertisers for a lot of money?

That guy - 2015-07-07

He's picking and choosing which lines to steal to keep it clean, which a bot could do, but he's also cleaning up some jokes, others have said.
Also, he set up the bot to steal comments from here, so any way you slice it, he's an assbirth.

That guy - 2015-07-07

Sorry I forgot: also, it looks like he's an actual human.

That guy - 2015-07-07

At least we're all united now– the gaylords, the neckbeards, the ninjers, the overeducated underachievers, the fat girls in party hats, the furries, the Cenas, the game modders, that one girl Tatertots, the bronies, the bleeding hearts, the lovers, the dreamers and Chet.

That guy - 2015-07-07

I forgot the occasional reactionary, the CN druids, The Boxxy Fan, the post-irony semi-trolls, etc.

That guy - 2015-07-07

Oh, and the two great, unseen forces of poetv:
The Legends of Lurking
and
The Mis-Post Fairy

EvilHomer - 2015-07-07

My comment about porn and Satanic hand gestures wasn't even a joke. I was being serious. :(

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

"the overeducated underachievers"

FUCK THAT I AM A LONE WOLF UP IN THIS BITCH

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

Actually, "post-irony semi-troll" is probably closer to home.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-07

Actually, I think every one of us can personally identify with at least half that list.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

I'd have gone with "halfchub-troll" myself, but "semi" is aacceptable.
Or "Hardysoftie" as an old boss of mine used to say.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-07

I wouldn't consider myself to be a gaylord, but I own at least one katana and am involved in the HEMA community, so I suppose I qualify as a ninjer. My beard is trimmed at least half the time, and it's a goatee, but I guess that's close enough for neckbeard. "Overeducated underachiever" hits a bit too close to home - that phrase is actually one of the phrases which my parents have repeatedly threatened to put on my tombstone.

I am not a fat girl and I don't get invited to parties, nor am I furry, although I wouldn't mind dressing in a pitbull fursuit and hanging out with Boomer one of these days. I definitely "get" Cena; he and I have our differences, but also many things in common. I DO mod games - in fact, I am actually working on a ChrisChan/ Sonichu conversion for The Sims 4 in another window as I type this!

I am not Tatertots. I am NOT a brony, although everyone thinks I am, so I guess that label stays. I am not a bleeding heart, and lover or dreamer is strictly depending on the context (the exact meaning of these two terms is not really clear, and I suspect That Guy included them merely so as to make an allusion to the song, "The Rainbow Connection") but sure, in general, being a Neo-Romantic and an enthusiast of Stuckism and New Sincerity, I guess those two labels can apply to me. I am not Chet. I am not a reactionary, and I'm not even sure what a "CN druid" is (is that like a" wizard"/virgin, only one who watches Cartoon Network shows?). I guess I'm a Boxxy fan; she kept my Army unit company back in the day, and now she's super into ponies, so she's alright in my books. And post-irony semi-troll? Well, I guess that depends on how you define the word "semi" and the word "troll". I am definitely committed to post-irony, and that has historically been a good way to troll people, but the term "troll" implies that one says things which one does not necessarily believe, for no other reason than to get a negative reaction out of someone else. I rarely ever do this. How "semi" is "semi"? How "troll" is "troll"? At what point does a lack of irony preclude trolling altogether? I guess I'll put that one up on my personal tally, but I do so under duress.

So that's... 10 out of 17 (10 out of 19 if you count the last two, which seem geared towards non-regulars specifically). Over half, as per my hypothesis!

Raggamuffin - 2015-07-07

The mothers, the fathers, the serpents, the priests. The foremen, the women, the widows, the beast...

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

I'll just use my standard title "what a fucking douchebag."

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

I haven't had a neckbeard since like 1997 but on the other hand I have been known to produce ambient soundscapes and only listen to music on vinyl and these days I build guitars using mostly 19th century materials and tools in my spare time so maybe "bitter, aging hipster jagoff" should go on the list.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

Evilhomer I always knew you were a fauxny who just posted brony stuff to troll people. I wasn't born yesterday on the wrong side of the bed you know.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

I'm definitely a reactionary but I'm reactionary against everything so in practice that makes me a centrist.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

"I am definitely committed to post-irony, and that has historically been a good way to troll people, but the term "troll" implies that one says things which one does not necessarily believe, for no other reason than to get a negative reaction out of someone else. I rarely ever do this."

Pure trolling was never fun for me so my approach has been to just find my most annoying traits and then exaggerate them many orders of magnitude. There's usually a grain of truth in there but I'll try to express it in the stupidest way possible. I assume it's pretty transparent, just like it is when the rest of you do it.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-07

Are you a reactionary or are you a revolutionary, though? At what point does a reaction become a revolution, and vice-versa?

And I'm not a fauxny, either! I am just someone who enjoys ponies and sometimes spends an hour or three on Derpibooru and also paints pictures of Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy which I then display in various libraries, with or without permission. I do not associate directly with the fandom much or consider the "brony" identity to be a part of my own. Rather, I consider myself a PoEny.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

I'm definitely not a revolutionary, I think revolutionary politics is a joke. Revolutions happen organically when a sociopolitical system breaks down and then The Revolution is retconned into history by whatever new group jumps in to seize power, become corrupted by it if they weren't already, and fuck over the population until the next cycle of collapse and reconstruction.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

I'm more of a misanthropist with an idealistic love of people.

M-DEEM - 2015-07-07

I forget, were gaylords part of the great Wad Accord of 99', or just gayrods?

Boomer The Dog - 2015-07-07

Cool Homer, if you ever get the Pitbull fursuit, we'll get a picture taken together somehow with me in my paper Boomer suit.

With Pitbulls being short furred Dogs, you might have more options for materials on a costume of one, as in different kinds of fabrics or felt that you can airbrush or paint features on, or a combination of fabric with small amounts of fur.

Boomer

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-08

I would absolutely donate to a Kickstarter to make that happen and I don't think I'm alone there. As long as there was a short documentary video about it.

kingarthur - 2015-07-07

Now I'm going to reconsider commenting here. Way to go, Brian Harrod.

memedumpster - 2015-07-08

I don't wanna hear about it anymore
It's a shame I've got to live without you anymore
Oh, there's a fire in my heart
A pounding in my brain, it's driving me crazy

We don't need to talk about it anymore
Yesterday's just a memory, can we close the door?
I just made one mistake
Oh, I didn't know what to say when you called me baby

Don't say goodnight
Say you're gonna stay forever
Oh woah, all the way

Can you take me high enough?
Can you fly me over yesterday?
Can you take me high enough?
It's never over, woah, woah, woah, woah

I was running, I was running for the door
Ooh yeah, the next thing I remember
I was running back for more, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Don't say goodnight
Say you're gonna stay forever
Oh woah, all the way
All the way, all the way, yeah, yeah

Can you take me high enough?
Won't you fly me over yesterday?
Can you take me high enough?
It's never over, yesterday's just a memory
Yesterday's just a memory

Lyrics by Brian Harrod

Aress - 2015-07-07

I'd just like to know how anyone ever found this on Google Plus. Harhar! Zing. Meh.

fluffy - 2015-07-07

I'm more upset that I don't see any of my amazingly witty or insightful comments on there.

That guy - 2015-07-07

You probably named his ugly children, and you don't even know it.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

"David Lesch Is Now Following Brian Harrod At "Get The Daily Dirt"

Mr. Lesch is a Trial Attorney, Legal Correspondent, and host of Today's Verdict television show."

We should consult him.

urbanelf - 2015-07-07

I just bought brianharrod.com.

That guy - 2015-07-07

You level up.

exy - 2015-07-07

The Lord's work, son. Now if we could sticky this post.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

That's all well and good, but what about brianherrod.sex?

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

Harrod, whatever.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

Gay marry me.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

This guy should know better than to mess with a professional gangstalking organization.

TeenerTot - 2015-07-07

You're my hero.

urbanelf - 2015-07-07

Can someone call for everyone to take screenshots of their original comments and plagiarized comments? We should probably make a Brian Harrod forum so we can aggregate any information.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

That is a good idea. WE need to collect all the evidence we can before we file a lawsuite.

urbanelf - 2015-07-07

What lawyer wouldn't want a piece of this class action, right?

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-07-07

Yes, let us voltron together and discuss the many ways Brian Harrod is a festering twat. His addiction to child pornography, for example. It's a well known fact that he leaves hidden cameras in the bathrooms under his janitorial care. People should know about this stuff!

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

You know, every few months someone suggests the need for a PoeTV satellite forum. This just might be the time and place to finally do it.

I volunteer to not be a moderator.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

I suggest we use this site as poeTV2!

https://plus.google.com/+BrianHarrod/posts

It has all the same videos we have, as well as our standard comment style already embedded in it.

That guy - 2015-07-07

HEY LAWYERS!! Who wants to get rich?!?!?!

TeenerTot - 2015-07-07

Would it violate the Prime Directive to leave nasty comments on his page? After all, he started it. >:(

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

He's an alien computer that needs to be taught how to love, as far as I'm concerned.

That guy - 2015-07-07

He made first contact– set phasers on 'legally harass to death'.

TeenerTot - 2015-07-07

Hey, he also stole my joke about the HydrateMe water bottle. And it wasn't even very good!

urbanelf - 2015-07-07

That's contact. Why are you confused??

15th - 2015-07-07

Unbelievable. What a fucking hack. He stole a crappy joke I made. I'll have to get in touch and send him some good ones.

SolRo - 2015-07-07

Isn't Brain Harrod the guy that raped and killed an under aged girl in the 1990s?

SolRo - 2015-07-07

He's probably checking this site daily, unless he's an automated script, because he steals content the same day it is posted.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2015-07-07

No, but he did beat someone to death with a table leg on the steps of a church once.

That guy - 2015-07-07

chumbucket - 2015-07-07

Looks like desert ants week is postponed in favor of fuck Brian Harrod week.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-07

ALLEGEDLY. It was never proven that Brian Laroy Harrod, of Greenwich, Connecticut, raped and killed an under aged girl in the 1990s. He may have, for all I know.

https://www.facebook.com/brianlaroyharrod
https://twitter.com/GetTheDailyDirt
https://www.linkedin.com/in/greenwichroundup

are all websites not necessarily connected with the rape and murder of an underage girl in the 1990s. That is merely a rumor I heard on the internet, which may or may not be true.

He's probably one of our newer conservative fuckwits.

He stole some stupid bible quotes on his theft site and didn't steal any of our videos making fun of homophobes and making fun of their crying after gay marriage was legalized.

That guy - 2015-07-07

Right.
I think a bot would screw up sooner or later, because of irony, if nothing else.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

He took my Confederate Caliphate and jeeeeeehaaaaaawd jokes.

I hope the NSA now considers him a person of interest.

urbanelf - 2015-07-07

Meme, take screenshots.

SolRo - 2015-07-07

there are some conservative fuckwits (the rich xtian northerners) that don't have any interest in confederacy or making excuses for slavery. But they do have a really old book that tells them to make the lives of gays a living hell.

Potrod - 2015-07-07

Politically, he's all over the place. Posts that are pro-Ted Cruz, links to a HuffPo article saying how successful Ikea's minimum wage increase was, National Burn a Confederate Flag day. We're putting way more thought into this than he is. Nothing can be gleaned about his personality from this other than that he is deeply lazy.

There are various posts about his cleaning service interspersed throughout this pages. My guess is this is some misguided attempt at getting advertising for his cleaning company.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

We were deeply lazy and politically all over the place first! He stole that from us too!

TeenerTot - 2015-07-07

I'm sure most of you have photoshop or the like, but if you need screenshots taken on your behalf, reply here with the basic info and I'll get it.

That guy - 2015-07-07

He only stole from me once, on 37 Dogs Guaranteed to Brighten Your Day

"35 needs to be punished"

The rest of my shit is too rude.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

I took screenshots.

His site makes it easy with that big ass box with his picture and name all over it. You could put our stolen jokes on a postcard.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

Also, everybody, don't forget your friend the "save as" option on the right click when visiting his main page. Grabbed his whole font page in case he deletes shit.

yogarfield - 2015-07-07

wait.. WHAT?!

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

If you haven't checked out his Linkedin yet, do yourself a favor (it doesn't require any sleuthing or creepiness since it's the first hit when you google his name):

EvilHomer - 2015-07-07

Although in all honesty, everything we post here is in the public domain and thus free to be re-appropriated. Information is a post-scarce resource; once committed to the aether, we can no more own our words than we can own the falling snow.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

Not true.
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/47/230

Check section e(2). Standard copyright protections apply, even on the Internet. Besides, if you can be liable for defamation by what you say online, you own the comment.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-07

*Standard* copyright laws. Read your own source:

---------------------------------------
(e) Effect on other laws
...
(2) No effect on intellectual property law
Nothing in this section shall be construed to limit or expand any law pertaining to intellectual property.
---------------------------------------

Section e(2) only applies to traditionally copyrighted material. Random internet posts are not covered under laws pertaining to intellectual property. /At best/, you might argue that your post was a creative work released under limited license (which would be bullshit), and that by using your work on a presumably for-profit social-media site, Mr Harrod broke the terms of that license. But good luck seeking restitution for that.

In fact, if you really want to get all legal here, it could be argued that ALL of our posts - or almost all, certainly the jokes Mr Harrod's stealing - are actually "derivative works", on the grounds that the jokes we make are building on the works of another (a Youtube Confederate, Anita Sarkeesian, some African desert ants, etc). Are these comments derivatives of Youtube videos? Fair-use criticism? None of the above? Feel free to call a lawyer and sort it out, because copyright protection is ultimately meaningless without a means to enforce it anyway. And good luck avoiding support's inevitable return, at which point he will claim that all of our comments (being as they are posted on his website) constitute work-for-hire, and thus the rights to all of our comments should revert to *him* for a period of no less than seventy years.

At any rate, that's all just legalese, and ultimately beside the point. Remember: what is "legal" and what is "just" are not the same things, the former referring to what is condoned by those who claim coercive power over you, and the latter being that behavior which is guided by reason, truth, and ethics. Ideally, we would like for the set-of-things-legal and the set-of-things-just to overlap perfectly, but I think we all know that this is rarely the case, particularly when it comes to modern-day "intellectual property" law (the very phrase "intellectual property" being, itself, intrinsically irrational gibberish!) Even if it could be proven that Mr Harrod has infringed upon your legal rights, AND judicial restitution could be sought for that infringement, it still would not follow that what he did was necessarily unjust. Rude? Yes. But perfectly in keeping with natural law.

"Information wants to be free". Mr. Harrod is welcome to re-quote that quote, if and when he mirrors this video.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

I don't know how it works with text, but with music copyright applies as soon as a composition is "fixed in a tangible medium" (i.e. as soon as you write it down or make a tape of yourself humming it or whatever). The trouble is being able to prove ownership in court and pay however many tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees to prosecute your case.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

"Information wants to be free" is the mantra of large companies who are making vast sums of money by collecting and monetizing all of the free information we give them.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

>Section e(2) only applies to traditionally copyrighted material.

Nowhere does it say that. It applies to traditional copyright law, which is a different thing.

https://copyright.lib.utexas.edu/useofweb.html

"Many people assume that everything posted on the Internet is public domain, probably because our law used to protect published works only if they displayed the proper copyright notice upon publication. The law, however, has changed: neither publication nor a notice of any kind is required to protect works today. Simply putting the pen to the paper or in the electronic medium, putting the fingers to the save key creates a copyrighted work. Once expression is committed to a tangible medium (and computer media is considered tangible), copyright protection is automatic. So, postings of all kinds are protected the same as published printed works."

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

So it IS the same as music copyright.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-07

Once again, meme, you need to read your own source. That one was one of the top hits on DuckDuckGo, and you can be sure I read it over before posting.

-------------------
Whenever an author posts anything on the Internet, he or she should reasonably expect that it will be read, downloaded, printed out, forwarded, and even used as the basis for other works to some degree. So, just by posting, an author impliedly grants a limited license to use her work in this manner ...
The trouble with implied licenses is that their boundaries are vague.
-------------------

*Even with* material generally deemed worthy of restitution by lawyers and the courts (such as music or movies), the actual boundaries of what does and does not constitute a copyright violation are hazy; when you move out to something like internet comments (which to the best of my knowledge have never been brought to court) even law professors are forced to cop-out in the end. Nevermind that internet communication often transcends local jurisdictions (making federal and state law irrelevant in such cases, both de facto and de jure) - all the legal arguments in the world ultimately mean nothing here, because it really all comes down to that last quoted sentence. As with the definition of "threat" and the legal boundaries (if any) on freedom of speech in regards to "threatening behavior", copyright protection for non-commercial internet posting is an area of law that is so vague and non-enforceable as to be essentially meaningless.

What's more, you're still failing to grasp the core of my argument here, which is that *legal* considerations are of no consequence, compared to the deeper matter of *justice*. OZ gets it! OZ is on top of things.

So, OZ - to you, I would say that you're misinterpreting the mantra's role here. The problem with big corporations - such as Google - and their relationship to said mantra, lies in the second part of Stewart Brand's famous quote:

----------------
"Information also wants to be expensive. ...That tension will not go away."
----------------

It is certainly true that Google profits greatly off the axiom, "Information wants to be free". However, it only profits because it *takes* that free information and commodifies it - restricts access and gives it a market value, all without compensating the original (quote-unquote) "owners" of said information. Google is running a racket, playing both sides of the tension which will not go away; I'm sure we are both in agreement on that. But that shite state of affairs doesn't mean the phrase "information wants to be free" is any less true.

In fact, this leads me to another point: namely, that IF the dissemination of "our" posts is truly such a big deal, then it stands to reason, that companies such as Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, really any group which might crawl poeTV and then list or sell our content elsewhere, THOSE companies should be our first priority. Not Mr Harrod. Go look up "poeTV" on Google right now. Search for your favorite video. I will guarantee you that Google displays a few of "our" comments, completely without our permission.

...

I just went and did it right now. The search string "poeTV Boxxy" returns comments by Fedex, Rocketblender, JHM, and more. It even returns Riskbreaker's user profile page! I can guarantee you, GUAR-AN-TEE you, that Google makes far more money reprinting these comments than Mr Harrod does, assuming, of course, that Mr Harrod even makes money to begin with. And yet... nobody cares. Why have none of us complained about this behavior before? Why isn't Google being sued by poeTV? Why don't we have a "fuck Google" week?

This nonchalant state of affairs proves two things.

0- Firstly, the system at large doesn't give a shit about extending copyright protection to random internet commenters, no matter how overeducated and awesome they may collectively be. Even if such a right DID exist, and this right WAS extended to the lot of us, it would be nothing more than an obscure legal fiction, unenforceable and completely irrelevant to us.
0- Secondly, and I believe this to be the most telling point, it demonstrates that our sudden concern for "intellectual theft" is completely disingenuous. We aren't *really* concerned about someone "stealing" our ideas, because it happens every single day, without any drama on our part whatsoever. No, this is not about art theft. Come on, guys; in reality, all we want here is a flimsy excuse to act offended and beat up a disabled stranger over the internet.

Now, that is not to say that we are WRONG for acting like this! We can certainly debate the ethics of eviscerating a poor old man who suffers from brain-damage and seems to genuinely enjoy our work (I can argue this either way). But anyone who says that they are truly upset over this comment-stealing nonsense, needs to do some serious soul-searching.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

"Limited use" and "blatant plagiarism for the purpose of monetization" are two different things, EvilHomer... or should I say... BRIAN HARROD! :O

The google search obviously displays them as ours, since it links directly here. You, er, Brian, doesn't link to this site.

I'm kidding, and I'm sure your pony fan art is safe, but don't try that verbose shit with Paramount. The law is automatic, it's not a right, and in a real case you'd come off sounding like a Sovereign Citizen.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

On the off chance you're not trolling (yeah, right), I'll level with you. I know these things because I've ran afoul of Internet based copyright before. I used to be like you, Brian, before I found non-copyrighted Jesus (the KJV Jesus, for reals, all other Bibles are copyrighted).

EvilHomer - 2015-07-07

"poeTV illuminati" displays comments by SPK, kingarthur, cognitivedissonance and more, all on the first page of results. "poeTV furry" on Bing returns Anonymous and asian hick. "poeTV vore" on Yahoo returns one of mine. Even StartPage and Duckie do this, reprinting our jokes without permission. Are we going to turn on StartPage and Duckie next? Will every IT corporation be the next target for our mob justice?

Meme - y̲o̲u̲ aren't Paramount. That's the whole point.

When you "ran afoul of internet based copyright", was it because you'd reprinted some random dude's Youtube comment on your Facebook page without properly attributing that comment and/or seeking written permission first? Or was it because you messed with an actual business?

EvilHomer - 2015-07-07

Well, whole bullet-point one, I should say.

memedumpster - 2015-07-07

You're missing the point that search results don't claim those things to be their own. The fact that you can rattle off the posters' names defeats the purpose of you using it as an example. Brainy Quotes doesn't plagiarize Einstein, Mark Twain, and Aretha Franklin.

I have no further comment on my own misadventures, not while Brian's watching.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

"OZ gets it! OZ is on top of things."

ATTN: BRIAN HARROD
You may use the above quote as much as you like wherever you like, with my blessings.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

To answer Evilhomer's most recent long post, what I am taking from the passages you quote is not that text posted on the Internet is public domain, but that even granted the original poster holds copyright the very nature of the medium means that there aren't usually any meaningful criteria to determine when that copyright has been infringed upon.

That guy - 2015-07-07

That's cool but if he steals Ode to Time to Make the Donuts from me, shit is going to get real.

Spaceman Africa - 2015-07-07

Holy shit.
People actually use google+?

Robin Kestrel - 2015-07-07

I'm actually sort of flattered that I made the cut.

Cube - 2015-07-07

Someone's stealing my jokes?

What the hell is Google+?

dubz - 2015-07-07

Nobody should give a fuck about Google+

Google has chased the InstaFaceCloudTindr for years now and it still isn't shit as far as "social media" goes.

SolRo - 2015-07-07

except, you know, youtube

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

It was already there before they bought it though.

dubz - 2015-07-07

Exactly, youtube is youtube.

Waaay more videos posted to facebook or tumblr than google+

I just wish the LJRIG was still a thing :(

Potrod - 2015-07-07

He's also on facebook where he has more followers. He's just covering all his bases.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

http://fuzzysquid.com/LJ.php

dubz - 2015-07-08

holy shit oz i love you

kamlem - 2015-07-07

If it is a bot, it's programmed to be Christian...

boner - 2015-07-07

If your life is at the point where you take comments made by an Internet entity that calls itself Boner, and repost them on a web site that nobody ever sees, then you have bigger problems than I do.

Potrod - 2015-07-07

He has nearly 250,000 followers on facebook (not sure how many of those are actually real) and probably just uses a 3rd party program to post to both g+ and fb simultaneously.

The whole enterprise strikes me less as "Look how funny/popular I am!" than coldly attempting to profit from social media with as little effort as possible. Not a bot, but bot-like.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

I don't have Facebook anymore so I only saw the G+ page with something like 11,000 followers, but if he has that many people on Facebook, real or not, then I actually am kind of legitimately offended because that's real money being made if he eventually sells it (or sooner if he is posting his own Youtube uploads on there and getting ad revenue, for example). This man needs a birthday turd.

The Mothership - 2015-07-07

I couldn't find any of my comments on his site. I am extremely disappointed. And angry, I hate plagiarism.

Not quite the same thing, but this is how I feel: http://achewood.com/index.php?date=07052007

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-07-07

I found one of my jokes plagiarized on Something Awful. And another person plagiarized me on Facebook. It was really flattering.

EvilHomer - 2015-07-07

My high-school yearbook and ArchieLuxury, although the yearbook chick was hot and Archie's attention was VERY flattering, so I was cool with both.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

I'm legitimately jealous about Archieluxury.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-07-07

He stole gmork's Martin Short joke. He stole memedumpster's Simpsons CERN joke about bunny rabbit clouds.

exy and EvilHomer - Ted Cruz jokes
SteamPoweredKleenex - Ra SolarCity joke
BHWW - entire post about TPP
IZ - post about Spike Jones
ROUS - Starcom first episode and MY COMMENT. NO THAT WAS NOT YOUR CHILDHOOD YOU MOTHERFUCKER. I WAS THE NERD WHO LIKED SPACECOM WHEN EVERYONE FORGOT ABOUT IT BECAUSE I LIVE IN AN IMAGINARY CARTOON WORLD. FUCK YOU.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-07-07

Binro - comments on bipolar woman
cognitivedissonance, Kabbage, EvilHomer and oddeye - Donald Trump comments

Oh I just read his biography. Holy shit, this.

"I cry easily when people are wronged."

Well then start crying, asshole.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

It's true, I have been deeply wronged by my lack of adequate representation in his reposts.

The Mothership - 2015-07-07

It ain't right.

Scrimmjob - 2015-07-07

He even plagiarized my shitty tags!

http://imgur.com/Asxl5XU

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-07

I like how he calls Star Wars fans "trekkies" and also misspells "trekkies."

Scrimmjob - 2015-07-07

Based on comments on the original video, it seems that Brian is insinuating that gmork is a trekkie!

The Mothership - 2015-07-07

This is just great.

Boomer The Dog - 2015-07-08

Is this the most replied-to video? I can't remember any other videos with this many comments or more.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-08

I think the one where I made a joke about the site shutting down and got banned for a week was pretty close, but I was banned the whole time so I didn't really look at it much.

fluffy - 2015-07-08

His current latest post:

Forgiveness is not always easy. At times, it feels more painful than the wound we suffered, to forgive the one that inflicted it. And yet, there is no peace without forgiveness.
- Marianne Williamson

memedumpster - 2015-07-08

Did Marianne Williamson catch him stealing her shit too?

Scrimmjob - 2015-07-08

So he posted this just now

http://imgur.com/o7XcIFv

memedumpster - 2015-07-08

There will be no peace while Kirk lives!

The Mothership - 2015-07-08

not good enough. I want a video apology submitted through the hopper, which is then posted onto your google+

Hooker - 2015-07-08

Is there any indication that's even in reference to us?

fluffy - 2015-07-08

I love that we were both checking his page at pretty much the same time.

Kumquatxop - 2015-07-08

Well, he's been doing it at least since November:
