This is my favorite one they've done so far.

Old_Zircon - 2015-08-15 Although the Mario Kart one is a close contender.

Good points, but if you were GOOD at Sonic then you COULD go fast throughout most of the levels, and not just during the flashy hands-off loop cuts and such. I mean, sorry guys, but you're just not as good at Sonic as I was when I was a kid. It's also a shame that they didn't include Sonic CD, which was actually before Sonic 3 and is my personal favorite 2D platformer for any system..
As far as overrated, yeah Sonic's overrated but so's Mario. I think a better example of overrated is Donkey Kong Country, which, like Blast Processing, was totally marketed off of its graphics, which were good, even though it was a shitty platformer which brought nothing new to the table.

Potrod - 2015-08-15 That's just like, your opinion man. I remember Donkey Kong Country being a shitload of fun and replayed it many times.
Donkey Kong 64 was, in contrast, a very dull collectathon, best demonstrated by how they turned the thrilling (in the original) mine cart sequence into a collection bonus game in which you literally could not die or fall off the tracks, if I remember correctly.

infinite zest - 2015-08-15 Don't get me wrong, I liked the game. In fact, it was a lot more fun to play with friends and it was pretty easy to figure out how to get 99 lives so it wasn't frustrating the way Sonic could be. But you had far superior platformers at the same time like Plok which were overlooked because the graphics weren't something new.

Potrod - 2015-08-16 I just watched some DKC gameplay and the graphics really aren't shitty.
*cries while looking up at erotic DKC fan art on wall*

infinite zest - 2015-08-16 See, the memorization (or at least super-twitchy) aspect was what I liked most. And I'm pretty sure these guys complained about how every game prompts you to press a button every time you pick something up or fire a weapon too. I mean, if you need to slow down, slow down, but it doesn't mean you can't still go fast.
I usually get bored and play a few rounds of Sonic Dash on my iPhone on the bus or something, and that game's nothing but speed (and it's pretty) but always going fast by itself gets old pretty quick. Sonic 2 on the other hand had a pinball machine in a level that you could just play if you got bored. Other games didn't have that.

Shenmue. The answer is Shenmue.

|
poorwill - 2015-08-16 I have seen people love Shenmue on the terms on which it was marketed. The recent Shenmue III kickstarter campaign brought a bunch of crazies out into the open again - saw multiple people claim Shenmue created a new genre.
Most overrated individual developer is Yu Suzuki, and not by a small amount. That's including people like Roberta Williams and Hideo Kojima too.
