Anaxagoras - 2016-02-02 Psst. Hey, buddy. Nobody (especially here) is making fun of their class. We're all cool with the fact that they work with hands and/or don't send their kids to the best universities.
Our problem is with their retrograde social positions & rank ignorance. See? No appeal to their class is needed to hate on them. The fact that they're all fat, old, and white makes for some amusing zingers, but even the demographic data is beside the point.
We've seen the content of their character, and we've found it wanting.

Void 71 - 2016-02-02 Shame on these bitter clingers for not supporting a party that does nothing but denigrate them and dismiss their concerns. Why, the next thing you know they'll be engaging in identity politics!

I thought Trump was running Republican.

|
Void 71 - 2016-02-02 Trump is only running as a Republican because he knows he can't win as an independent. The Republican establishment hates him as much as the left does, which is why they threw their support behind Carson and Jeb and why they're pulling out the stops for Cruz and Rubio. Even their unofficial news outlet (Fox News) shits on him every chance they get, but they don't realize they're the ones being played. Trump has been manipulating the media since the mid '70s and he turned it into an art form in the '80s.

That holier-than-thou voice almost makes me want to vote Trump myself. I won't -- I'll hold my nose and vote Hillary or Bernie or Bloomie -- but geez.

Old_Zircon - 2016-02-02 I bet Dave supports Trump.
|
Old_Zircon - 2016-02-02 Actually, it looks like he hasn't endorsed anyone this time around, although back in 2011 he DID call trump "his hero" on Twitter because of the whole Obama birth certificate thing.

Welp, Trumpers came in 2nd in Iowa.. I know one caucus doesn't decide everything but I was just getting used to accepting Trump as the batshit crazy entertainer he is and now I probably have do the same for Cruz :(

infinite zest - 2016-02-02 Plus I've said it before, but Trump's xenophobic toxicity wouldn't make a dent in foreign policy in the next 4 years, because nobody respects him. He'd basically be like a Vince McMahon. His underlings hate him and fans love to boo him, but that's about it. But Cruz has a lot of powerful friends in Washington, which is what really scares me.

I think it's fair to be a little curious about the answer to the question, "What sort of Americans would willingly vote for a loud, blustering, caudillo-type candidate whose administration would likely cause irreversible damage to American democracy and more-or-less prove that the United States wasn't immune to the lure of authoritarianism?" The answer is "these Americans." These Americans are the equivalent of those happy Germans who enthusiastically waved Nazi banners at Nuremberg before the whole thing fell apart for them.
