The Mothership - 2016-11-12

Ok, i'll bite. which one is you?

infinite zest - 2016-11-12

A good portion of the movie was filmed in the neighboorhood in SE Portland I grew up in (Reed College in case you're familiar; I know Mothership is) and they wanted to use the exterior of our Elementary School and its surprisingly huge bike rack for a couple of scenes. You can catch me riding my bike past one of the houses that explodes later on (although those were built and destroyed up by the Columbia River). I guess my bike was the kind that shows up on Camera really well, or maybe I was chosen to be the bike rider randomly, I really couldn't say.

What I COULD say was that I was there, after school, waiting around with a dozen or so other kids because if we left our bikes there overnight we'd get $10 as well as milk and cookies, which we assumed would be badass cookies unlike those horrible Hot Lunch kinds that you never even wanted to eat. Anyway, after I got paid $50 for the bike-by scene, I guess word of mouth and spread and all of a sudden a couple hundred kids left their bikes overnight, because hey $10's a lot of money.

This (and I'm not making this up) caused Production to go above their estimated budget, and I guess in Hollywood that causes all sorts of problems, even if it's just $100 or so bucks they owe to more kids who showed up than expected (I was also in the Parade scene in Mr. Holland's Opus, but that was treated as Volunteer extra work and you had to sign something that said your likeness would be on camera, etc. but that you agreed never to profit from the scene, not even if you found a penny on the ground. So the people in charge kinda fucked themselves, and eventually ALL the kids who left their bikes there didn't get the $10 or some kind of badass cookie. They just got the Cafeteria to give us each one of those aforementioned lame/gay hotlunch cookies and apologized, probably more than they had to. Since it was rated R my parents wouldn't let me watch it and eventually I forgot about it, keeping busy with Opera and Bassoon and whatnot but it was randomly on a few years ago and sho 'nuff there's Young Zest. Anyway that's my Dr. Giggles story.

So far I don't have much in the way of Grimm stories; my house at the time was an alcoholic/drug flophouse on 16th and Clinton which has since been demolished, but at any given time, 24 hours a day, you'd see at least 3 of us on the patio drinking beers or passed out on the lawn. You can kind of see the house apparently in Season 1, but I think they were able to edit out the hipster-drinking-at-9-in-the-morning part, which sucks because that's more Portland than anything!

Oh come on, every kid under 18 within 60 miles of Portland was in the parade scene in Mr Hollands Opus.

But seriously though, cool story bra.

Were u in it too Mommaship? I was in the parade and in the orchestra.

EvilHomer - 2016-11-12

OH SHIT

Did you get to meet Zoe Trilling?! And if so, do you still have her phone number?

EvilHomer - 2016-11-12

Seriously, IZ. Zoe Trilling is right up there alongside Crystal Lowe, Monique Dupree, and Charlie Spradling, so far as my favorite B-movie scream queens go! Dr Giggles was, sadly, one of the few films Ms Trilling appeared in, so any anecdotes about her would be greatly appreciated.

Mother Lumper - 2016-11-12

Larry Drake passed away earlier this year, he starred as Durant in Darkman and played a couple other cult movie roles. He was very appreciative of his fans.

So, I love this movie, in spite of its badness, because Larry's so fun. It had the potential to spawn a franchise, but I think the concept of a murderous doctor was maybe a little too squicky for most folk, plus it was a little unevenly paced.

Savage_Henry - 2016-11-12

I remember seeing the trailer for this and Popcorn 8 million times as a kid...but sadly I've never actually watched this movie. Is it worth watching, if not only for Larry Drake?
