Great piece of music, but it's not a song. Song refers to a form of music which includes a bridge, a chorus, and possibly vocals, which is this not. This is a Toccata and a Fugue. The form of a toccata and fugue are vastly different. In fact, a fugue has a very highly structured form with complex interplay between a main theme, it's counterpoint, how it's modulated, etc.
That's just a pet peeve of mine - referring to every piece of music in the world as a song. It's akin to referring to every piece of art in the world as a landscape painting, or every piece of literature in the world as a poem.
That being said, a pipe organ is something to be experienced and heard in person. In a good hall, or church, or cathedral, with a good organist, it is a once in a lifetime experience. A large organ is so powerful that you can literally feel the vibrations in the wall and in the floor, and in fact the pipe organ was used for this exact effect in the final movement of the Pines of Rome, where the floor vibrations were there to represent the march of ancient Roman soldiers along the Via Appia.
There are also still organs which are over 300 years old that are still perfectly functional, and even some that are over 600.
If I could go back in time to choose another instrument, it would have been the organ. It's an amazing instrument.
Anyway there's my pretentious rant of the day. Carry on!

This piece has kind of an interesting history. Music historians are not sure whether it was composed completely by Bach, composed by someone else and arranged by Bach, composed by Bach and arranged by someone else, or if Bach had nothing to do with it and his name was pasted onto it well after it was written.
