She totally disarmed him. *Giggle* Kawaii.

I miss the martial focused Gundam shows.

SolRo - 2023-01-18

Care to elaborate?

garcet71283 - 2023-01-18

The earlier Gundam shows were basically the war movies with the undercurrent of “war is bad, waa” instead of a show about “war is bad, waa” with an undercurrent of a war movie.

It’s why I personally like Stardust Memory the best followed by 08th MS Team.

SolRo - 2023-01-18

Unicorn would be in that lane as is Gundam Thunderbolt and the recent Hathaways Flash pt1 movie. All are original universe and timeline set during a war or large military upheaval.

Gundam jumps around between universes and timeline’s frequently. This anime is alternate universe.

garcet71283 - 2023-01-18

Yeah, I started with Wing back in the Toonami years but haven’t connected with any of the alternate universe stuff since moving out of my mandatory teenage weeaboo phase.

SolRo - 2023-01-18

Hathaway is worth a watch, they really splurged on it.

Also recommend watching unicorn in the 7 part OVA format.

You could also go in with Gundam Origin which tells the story of Char from childhood and all the political machinations of early Zeon

There’s actually quite a good amount of original universal century content that came out in the last decade or so.

Wing is an outlier in the Gundam EU. The first half of the show is this really dark spy thriller where all these shadowy cabals, manipulating events and vying for power.

Sadly, all that build up never pays off and around episode 20 the whole show falls apart.

Maggot Brain - 2023-01-20

Gundam O is definitely worth the watch." Char from OTS to Z to and CCA is all over the place. I really like that they changed Char into a "bad seed."

Jeriko-1 - 2023-01-22

The only thing I remember about Wing is that a character turns from heel to face. But while he's in heel mode he completely obliterates the area of the CONUS 'because that's where all the problems are originating'. This creates this effect where there is a perfect concave etched into the globe in the shape of what was once the CONUS. Which was offkey hilarious.

That's when I began to realize that most anime at heart is a Showa Era wankfest.

I had a real negative reaction to Gundam Uni and IBO but I've been meaning to give this new one a shot.

SolRo - 2023-01-18

I enjoyed unicorn a lot. What made you not like it?

Maggot Brain - 2023-01-19

Uni starts off strong but then quickly devolves into a fetch-quest where the big reveal was a supper secret article of the space constitution that raises more problems than answers. Also, Full Frontal is just the worst Char clone. He takes up some much time that could have been used for other characters, like say Mineva, that actual leader of Zeon.

SolRo - 2023-01-19

Mineva didn’t seem like a character with much to do in a story full of giant robots and spec-ops raids. Not that she isn’t a compelling character when she does get scenes but I just don’t know how much more a normal human politician could do in that story.

Maggot Brain - 2023-01-19

Something else that I found odd was that Uni was a sequel to ZZ of all things. Since I've never seen ZZ some of the character call-backs were lost on me.

I thought the red-headed female pilot was girl from 0080 the entire show.

SolRo - 2023-01-19

Unicorn is UC, so it’s not a sequel per se, just another part of the timeline where characters from previous entries still live.

Maggot Brain - 2023-01-20

Uni is really dependent on knowing who Puru-puru was.

Something else that bugged me about Uni it's been 15 years since the One Year War but apparently they never repatriated all those Zeon soldier back to space- This is an issue with the UC in general, but this was the first time I was aware of it.

One small thing I did like is that at the end they finally resolve all that skullduggery that the Anaheim corp. was facilitating.

SolRo - 2023-01-20

I thought the story presented the zeon on earth as sleeper cells, not like a full army just camping out in the middle of Africa.
