I, for one, would love an adult Parachute-As-Sport league.

Let's just get high/drunk, stand a circle, and play with an army surplus parachute for an hour.

And then fuck!

ashtar. - 2023-08-29

I'm down with this.

We could maybe skip the parachute part though.

I know many adults who probably need to start back in preschool. I fully support adult education and don't think anyone needs to be shamed for it. Also arts and crafts are fun.

“Millennials” “liberals” “get off my lawn I’m old”

ashtar. - 2023-08-30

That you for rising to the bait.

jfcaron_ca - 2023-08-30

We teach children to stop unstructured play so that they only see organized sports or games with rules as legitimate. Probably a mix of structured and unstructured play is most healthy. This is why "sandbox" video games are popular I think.

I guess my issue with this (and I see it as an extension of people obsessing over the same YA media IP their whole lives, etc.) is that it's a backwards-looking retreat from the world and one's own potential.

I mean, build a shed or something. Design a garden. Learn to knit. Go to Montana and backpack in the Bob Marshall wilderness for a few weeks. Make your own Kimchi. Take up fucking traditional nautical decorative knotwork. There's a lot of opportunities for creativity and exploration that move forward rather than backwards.

SolRo - 2023-08-30

Your implication is that these people haven’t done any of that and you’re better than them because they like to do this stupid silly thing occasionally

That you are some kind of alpha human because you do things the lifestyle writers tell you that you have to do

Cena_mark - 2023-08-30

American communities are isolating. We tend to live in suburbs and we don't have common areas to interact. Traditional forms of community like unions, lodges, and church have been in decline. I support any social activity that brings people together. I used to think Dungeons and Dragons was nerdy, but Dungeons and Dragons gets people to socialize IRL. It's far more social and cool than most video games.

ashtar. - 2023-08-30

I am, yes.

SolRo - 2023-08-31

You having some kind of reaction to all the supplements you’re desperately taking to hold on to whatever self image of youth you fantasize about?

ashtar. - 2023-08-31

I take fiber cause it helps me poop. Which is weird because I eat a lot of vegetables and I wonder if I just have like a slow colon.

ashtar. - 2023-08-31

The point I was trying to make (which I didn't really articulate well I guess) is that this SFW ABDL corporate retreat is sad because there are more robust and rewarding experiences of creativity and exploration that are open to adults. This seems boring.

Just like there are better books and media that adults can engage with rather than re-masticating the same (kind of simple) media for teenagers over and over.

Nothing wrong with that in small doses, but it seems like it's a widespread cultural phenomenon and it's kind of sad and gross.

SolRo - 2023-08-31

You should write a book describing what forms of leisure activities are acceptable for milquetoast white Americans to do and then tour the conservative talk show circuit ranting about how leftists are destroying American family values, etc etc

Your life must be so boring to start whining about what other people do

ashtar. - 2023-08-31

The general cultural retreat into infantilism is worth critiquing, I think.

And being a hater is very fun and free, thank you. Why you gotta hate on my hating, SolRo?

teethsalad - 2023-08-31

honestly less embarassing than posting/commenting on this site for decades on end

ashtar. - 2023-09-01

You got me there.

Binro the Heretic - 2023-08-30

The withered old fucks complaining about adults seeking "childish" activities like coloring books don't realize it's caused by trauma.

ashtar. - 2023-08-30

The Body Keeps the Score has really done a fucking number on America.

Crackersmack - 2023-08-31

All these people grew up in households with both parents and six figure incomes.

Also I feel like if the men in this video had any male friends they would have been incredibly embarrassed for anyone to see this.

ashtar. - 2023-08-31

My parents' divorce where they had some terse exchanges is the same kind and degree of Trauma as Marines getting shelled and murking civilians, and I need to spend my whole adult life and enough money to support a working class family on my never ending healing journey.

Gmork - 2023-08-31

Fantastic strawman, ash. I truly believe that's what you think is happening.

ashtar. - 2023-08-31

I am describing several people I know.
