This could have been a perfectly fine sci-fi series without being Star Trek. But studios insist on having a ready-made audience before the first script is even written.
Some of its strongest episodes and characters are because of Star Trek lore and world building
Which is great if you know a lot of Star Trek lore.

I can't watch this. I still have PTSD from that musical episode of Xena Warriror princess.
To be fair, this episode was a lot of fun. Just weird that it aired two episodes after another campy gimmick episode (Lower Decks crossover) and right after a super-serious dark episode.
The musical episode harbinges the puppet episode.
