DON'T RUIN IT GOD DAMN IT!

Tolkien couldn't write for shit anyway. It always pained me that he qwas more widely recognied with his nice, safe, middle class 'dreams of empire' ballbag of a story than Mervyn Peake was with the Gormenghast trilogy.

Umm, yeah, way too harsh... Tolkien was a professor of linguistics and literature at Oxford, so Im PRETTY sure he had an idea at least how to construct a decent story. Yeah, he takes some risks like splitting up the story into three different tales at times, but it works.

Peake, on the other hand, didn't even write in complete sentences. His descriptives are involved and interesting but make each paragraph way too dense, and the names of the characters are at best Disney silly and at worst fucking gay. Sourdust? Irma Prunesquallor? STUUUUPID.

Supposedly Peake was a painter too, but the illustrations he did in my copies of the Gormenghast trilogy are fucking horrific. Unidentifiable. So nice FAIL there, Merv.

Really the only thing the two have in common is that they are a trilogy...
