The only things I remember about 3 & 4 were that the space combat was horrible, and there was a 5 minute loading time whenever it switched from flying to FMV. The times where FMV would pop up in the middle of a flying mission...whoah boy.
If you actually want Wing Commander with a decentplot, check out the books by William Fortschen (End Run and Fleet Action specifically). They're fluff, but fun reading (if you can get past what a disgusting Republican the author is) and the movie would have been a lot better off if they want off of them instead.
