I had to vote this up as an ex-employee. What really shocks me is Blockbuster appears to be going along with this -- I think my old colleagues need to be very worried.

GlennFinito - 2009-02-23

I voted this up for the exact same reason.

Xenocide - 2009-02-23

As did I.

Also because most Blockbuster managers are galactic douchebags and twisting the knife on them makes me giggle.

Enjoy - 2009-02-23

I never understood why it took so long to check out at Blockbuster. It sometimes took five minutes and they had to do nothing but take my money and hand me the video I brought up to the counter.

I can go to McDonalds and get an ENTIRE MEAL in about one minute.

Why can't the Blockbuster transaction be about 5 seconds long?

voodoo_pork - 2009-02-23

Because most of the idiots who wander around Blockbuster are impatient douchebags just like you.

I LOVE THE WHOLE WORLD.

GlennFinito - 2009-02-24

Enjoy

I once got scolded for checking out a customer too fast.

I do believe that in the future there will be museums devoted to the history of buying stuff

robotkarateman - 2009-02-23

What really sold this clip to me were the additional digs at Virgin and Borders at the end.

FABIO - 2009-02-23

Sent this to my parents.

They didn't get it =\

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-02-23

The news ticker at the bottom.

RomancingTrain - 2009-02-23

I always watch these twice so I can pay attention to the ticker.

It seems like the software they use at the register was made in QBasic. That's probably why it takes so long to operate.

Juice Eggs McKenna - 2014-10-29

My pissy local Blockbuster had two clustered DEC Alpha server 3000s running what appeared to be OpenVMS under the counter, at least k worth of kit. It was surreal.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-02-24

Better than Williamsburg.

sasazuka - 2017-11-04

Fun fact: the Blockbuster Video seen on the cover of the pamphlet was in downtown Ottawa, on Bank Street between Cooper and Somerset.

It's now a Sleep Country mattress store.

Hilarious how it only took 9 years for this to come exactly true.

Not just Blockbuster going extinct, but only one store left open, kept around mostly as a nostalgia museum oddity. They sell nostalgia movie nights where you can rent out the whole store and stage a "movie night sleepover".
