Although, googling this now, I have found a few diff versions of this story, so there's probably a fair amount of BS in each telling.

I love the idea that they were shooting a major Hollywood film, and Van Damme was the banished voice of reason.

The stories I read and heard about come down to either Van Damme being a douche bag who would injure stuntmen and stuff. Or that a puny little Van Damme Predator wouldn't have been very impressive or scary next to Arnold, Ventura, Apollo Creed and the rest of the cast.
