After staging a (failed) military coup in 1984 he defected and was granted dual citizenship of the United States and the British Empire in exchange for the whereabouts of two nuclear warheads. Even though his information was false, it was determined he wasn't intentionally lying but given misleading information and was allowed to keep citizenship.
