Damn, I feel guilty for harboring resentment towards my local FOX affiliate now.
During the airing of the 'Maude Dies' episode of the Simpsons the audio was cut twice for ten minutes at a time to announce that some bumfuck county a state over was facing a flood warning.
Of course I didn't call and complain. (Though that better have been one HELL of a flood, Indiana!)

After being the person that hit the button to physically overlap normal programming with weather, I can say that they required by law to do that (lest they be fined a lot of money). One of the engineer's responses to people complaining about their shows getting cut off was: "Fuck 'em, tell 'em to move to a state without natural disasters."
Also, it's "public television" for a reason.

Hooper_X - 2010-05-31 Working in TV LJ:
I worked in a newsroom for about three years and took my fair share of these calls. I think exactly once I convinced someone who thought like this to settle down. "Ma'am, our viewing area runs all the way from X to Z, and while you may be inconvenienced right now, people over in Z are relying on us for information that could literally save their lives. I hope you never find yourself in that situation."
That actually seemed to calm her down.
It was simultaneously easier and harder explaining to people why we cut in during programming and not during commercials. "Ma'am (they were invariably women, strangely), advertisers pay us to run their commercials. We pay the network to run their shows. It's not pretty, but you do the math."

It had to be Criminal Minds, didn't it? I want to say something about how that show is the worst, the most insipid show with the most bullshit viewers, but then again it is like one of the most popular programs on tv so maybe it's no surprise that this piece of human garbage is a fan. Man that show is some sour stray cat balls though.

I have only seen one episode of Criminal Minds.
In it, there was a vigilante killing random criminals in the city. The police barely cared, until one of the guys he killed turned out to be an undercover cop, and then it was all HEY GUYS VIGILANTISM IS WRONG.
So they call in the criminal psychologist who I guess is the main character, and he deduces, with no evidence whatsoever, that the culprit has an inflated ego, and also "an exaggerated sense of black and white." Also, he has a god complex, yet is also insecure. Later they raid his apartment and discover he obsessively collects things. At this point they decide he is also delusional. At the end it turns out all this is true, and also he hears voices, and one of the detectives talks him down from killing a guy by winning a debate with the voices. But then a sniper kills the guy anyway, for justice.
What I'm saying here is that if you enjoy this show you deserve those tornadoes.

I think it was Neil Postman's work in Amusing Ourselves To Death who envisioned aliens coming to our nuclear-war ravaged cities to discover corpses and shadows of people sitting in front of their TV sets. I think it fits well with this woman's state of mind.
