He was hit with a beanbag round and is currently recovering in hospital. He'd been rolling around, slashing parked cars' tyres, and when he was confronted he refused to drop the knife. They pepper-sprayed him, and then it escalated to this -- it's allover Google news.

Maybe it would be better if local neighbourhood organizations took over the role of a virtually defunct police, and in fact protected us from police. The could split up their patrol areas into 'turfs' and wear various colours to identify which local neighbourhood organizations they are a part of.
