This whole thing stinks. I'm not much for conspiracies but I really wonder if we are witnessing a Chernobyl despite the assurances from the Japanese government.

Caminante Nocturno - 2011-03-14

Shut the fuck up, Enjoy.

fatatty - 2011-03-14

Or are we witnessing the coverup of the birth of Gojira?

Black Napkins - 2011-03-14

If it is, we'll know quickly. Radiation release isn't something easy to hide.

RockBolt - 2011-03-14

These are light water reactors, you moron. Chernobyl level meltdowns are physically impossible

Webcam situated at the site, updated hourly. Guess we can see when/if it melts down.

jangbones - 2011-03-14

I am certain that the entirety of the situation is not getting reported, since the Japanese government has every motive to control all information at this juncture.

But the worst case scenario, while terrible, pales in comparison to the other problems facing the country right now.

Riskbreaker - 2011-03-14

Let's put things in proper context: soviet russia was always concerned about hidding everything they could to their citizens, and the world. I'm not saying no goverment these days wouldn't try to hide a massive nuclear disaster, but these days it wouldn't be that easy. With some many eyes watching this tragedy other countries are obviously worried about the repercusions of this.

futurebot - 2011-03-14

"soviet russia was always concerned about hidding everything they could to their citizens, and the world"

thanks for that point of insight you dumb fuck

Riskbreaker - 2011-03-14

A WILD FUTUREBOT APPEARS!

Caminante Nocturno, before you hate on me too much, realize I am the only person organizing an effort to bring New Orleanians to Japan to show them how to loot.

Tom Collins - 2011-03-14

Nuclear scaremongering is like having a Biro inserted into your cock by an angry pimp; there is a time and place for it, but it's not here and I don't want to know about it.

godot - 2011-03-14

The techs working around #3 to protect their neighbors are (or were) heros. They all knew the risk from hydrogen buildup was the same as at #1.

Also, that roof flew 8-900 ft straight up. For scale the reactor building is about 8 stories tall.

There are much better videos of this:

Also, just to make everybody who's not already crying, start:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/events/japan-quake-2011/beforeafter .htm

Move mouse over the images to see the before/after.
So, so sad.

fedex - 2011-03-14

yeah, that one near the end where it looks like a new inland sea has formed just blows my mind

fluffy - 2011-03-14

holy shit

Harold Manchester - 2011-03-14

Yes, but when I move the mouse the other way I AM A HERO.

Also yeah, that new inlet is fucking nuts.

Jet Bin Fever - 2011-03-14

My god. Chilling.

notascientist - 2011-03-14

I like how they adjusted the color balance on the "after" photos to make them look more horrible than they even are. Real classy.

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-03-14

Well fuck us all, Fuku #2 just melted down. Heroic? Maybe, but they're looking more like Homer Simpson on a spree. That's three for six.

Oscar Wildcat - 2011-03-14

...and why did #2 fail? The press is reporting that the genset that ran a cooling pump ran out of diesel fuel. Nobody was watching it. Doh!

Tom Collins - 2011-03-14

yeah i mean somebody should have put some waders on and got a can of diesel from down the road

WHAT
