I think average Americans tend to have a lack of civility in situations like this because the idea of admitting a mistake is seen as a sign of weakness and you have to defend yourself even when you are clearly in the wrong and anger is usually an effective tactic because most people don't want to get in a physical confrontation over something so small.
Also, the average American tends to angrily confront people who have made a mistake because THAT PERSON HAS SHOWN THEIR WEAKNESS! FUCK THEM! THEY DESERVE IT! RAAAARRRGH!
