If I said that I was not yet convinced that this qualifies as genocide, would that mean that I'm in favor of it? There are so many other bad things that it could be. Maybe it is genocide, but my point is that you don't need to believe that it's genocide to be against it.

I'm not proud of this, but I only began to understand who the Palestinians are in my late 20s, when I discovered NPR. I submit that there are millions of white Americans like me, who grew up not believing they had a dog in the fight, and found the whole story to be complicated and frustrating. I don't have a lot of faith in my own opinion, and maybe less in anyone else's opinion.

As I already said, I am beginning to suspect that Israel takes advantage of people like me being checked out, and extreme opinions make it harder to become engaged.
