The car was so much more interesting in the book, where it was some kind of hell vehicle that had ghosts and corpses in it and bent reality and time. Its previous owner was a rageaholic who imbued it with a supernatural force. In the movie it's just an evil car that's evil right off the assembly line, no other real explanation. Of course, I'm talking about a movie and a book about an evil car. So I guess it shouldn't make a difference.
