"proprietary complex vitamin superdose and a mild stimulant**"

**Yea, meth.

I've never seen this show - is it all this bizarre?

cognitivedissonance - 2013-06-10

It's spaced out between hours upon hours of Dan Draper looking intently out windows.

Every few episodes there is a drug episode or a California episode. The rest is filled with boring old flawless direction and setting, good-to-great writing, and character development.

You sort of have to power through the first season and second up until the lawnmower scene and after that it just becomes better and better.

Then Lane Pryce shows up along with drug usage, Stan, Ginsburg, and sideburns. Oh god the late 60's sideburns....

Its a pricey soap opera. By his own admission, Weiner had no plan past the first season, and boy can you tell. Any point that the show was going to make, it made then--maybe even in the first episode. It vacillates between Wonder-Years-With-Scotch and a grinding lack of change on the part of the protagonist.

But hey, great costumes, and occasionally they throw in something weird like this to keep you awake. It's a gimmick they didn't need early on, but when you fly completely by the seat of your pants a la LOST, you have recourse to that kind of thing.

Go get 'em, Phelps.

Translation: its a superiorly written soap opera. And I've seen every episode.
