A smart bird wouldn't have messed with a porcupine in the first place.

It may not have had a choice. When I was living in Alaska I was hearing some ravens squawking and hollering outside my window. It was really bothering me after 15 minutes and I went to the window to see why they were being so damned annoying.
Turns out there was a porcupine up in the tree attacking their nest. The ravens tried to save their young, but their efforts didn't bother the porcupine any. I have some of it on video. Maybe I'll upload it.

Cool! I didn't knew Porcupines could climb trees. I love crows and porcupines alike, but apparently both are fully capable of being dicks. I'm not sure if she killed it or was just inspecting its already dead corpse, but every time my neighbor's black cat went outside, the crows would attack her, but not any other outside cat, including my own.. at least 30 of 'em would just divebomb the cat. I like to drop peanuts so they follow me around, and I think it was after the crows saw me petting the cat that they stopped harassing the cat.

I learned that the very first time I saw one. I was driving and spotted one crossing the road so I got out of my car so I could take its picture. It saw me coming and made its way up a tree.
There were some ravens near the entrance of my apartment complex that got really aggressive. It was spring time so I guess it would be for their young. Whenever I walked out of there they would swoop over me. It was quite scary. They'd squawk mere inches above your head and you could also hear and feel the beat of their wings.

My favorite kind of bird.

They became my favorite when I lived in Alaska. Its easy to see why the natives admired them and attributed a spiritual nature to them. I'd be out hiking or snowshoeing and it would sometimes seemed like a raven would be trying to communicate with me.
Their vocal range is amazing. Sometimes they'd even sound like Michael Jackson when he's go, "Ow!"

I like to think that taking care of the planet and all of it's inhabitants is what we are meant to do. Of course that's complete bullshit but it sure would be nice if we did.

its just because we have opposable thumbs and good optics.
If chimps wouldnt try and eat them theyd just get them to do it.
