Should MEN send men to mars, should MEN send women to mars or should MEN send men and women to mars? It looks like MEN have some decisions to make.

yep

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-06-16

Well that depends...

Will they be coming back or not?

infinite zest - 2015-06-16

Naw.. they'll just be scissoring back and forth

oddeye - 2015-06-16

The forst mission to mars should be comprised of the best candidates. So long as all the sex and race quotas are reached who cares about that kind of shit?

Old_Zircon - 2015-06-16

It's a known fact that Mars needs them.

infinite zest - 2015-06-16

^

takewithfood - 2015-06-16

Also, you only have to pay them 77% as much.

Gmork - 2015-06-16

It should be all qualified candidates. Who gives a shit.

oddeye - 2015-06-16

Who is more qualified than an Alpha MALE, amiright?

baleen - 2015-06-16

*And allow fat people to become asternots. The end.

EvilHomer - 2015-06-16

*sigh* Gmork, did you even watch the video? He's presenting a technical argument *about* qualifications; qualifications are the whole point.

Now, I can't say I'm convinced by his points about macular degeneration, particularly in light of the cavalier manner with which he brushes off the counter-arguments about radiation. He also failed to convinced me with his psychological argument; early on he admits that NASA has never found any psychological differences between the sexes, and different results from different agencies could very well be the byproduct of the local recruiting environment... assuming their data was even accurate to begin with.

However, the point Mr Space Time makes about food intake is considerably stronger. That is not something which can easily be dismissed; after all, "fat people" are even less desirable in space than they are on Earth!!! If a short, skinny woman can be sent to Mars on 5 billion dollars less worth of food-and-fuel than a tall strapping man, then that is indeed something well worth considering.

This isn't to say that men should be disqualified from the mission, of course! But I think it's reasonable for prospective candidates to be tested and judged on how well they can abstain from gluttony and eat like a healthy human being.

gravelstudios - 2015-06-17

What about a monkey. YOu can't go to mars without a monkey. In a little space suit.

That guy - 2015-06-18

SEQUEL!!

fluffy - 2015-06-16

what's with all the random fast-forward scrub effects, which even happen mid-paragraph sometimes?

chumbucket - 2015-06-16

Better yet, send a bunch of unruly kids up there with a conch shell.

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-06-16

Indeed! Why should it be any different than what's down here?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-06-19
