Mine was them constantly making big purchases for themselves (recreational art supplies, 0 guitars) with that month's check from daddy while leaving 3 months of their utility share unpaid.

For me, hippies personify sentiment over meaningful action. Who serves the sweet mother better, some square that engineers solar panels or these dipshits? Well, the former is really difficult and requires discipline and decades of work. But, lentils are easy to make and pot can be smoked out of an apple. Granted, I don't contribute much to humanity either, but I'm not obnoxiously righteous, like a lot of hippies I know. There are worse groups though...

My wife and I are on very friendly terms with a couple who are deeply involved with Greenpeace. They have all of the surface-level trappings of hippies, but they're actively engaged in real-world animal rights activism, and they both have days jobs. Through them, we're met other couples who are involved with Greenpeace. Some are hippieish, others aren't, but all of them are serious about what they do and motivated enough to spend most of their free time doing it.

But yeah, trustafarians and Burning Man-tier hippies are nauseating. The area where I currently live is bursting at the seams with the former, and I wish they would find another trendy area to infest and take the hipsters with them.

Cleaning the kitchen with the dish sponge and then putting it back.

Every time.

I actually take this stuff on a case by case basis because I think most of them have their hearts in the right place and some of them are actually oing really good things with their lives.


Part of the difficulty of the whole "brotherhood of man" thing, though, is that you open yourself up to getting flooded with assholes, but I'd take the Rainbow Family over most of the audience at a Dropkick Murphys show or a TED talk, for example.
