There's no point fining people who have no money. And jails are full. So... wait until they OD or do a felony is the system we've decided on.

The new mayor won on a campaign of "I'll hire 100 more cops and 100 more nurses!" even though the mayor's office & city council don't have the power to hire cops directly (they approve the PD budget, the PD decides on how to allocate), there is no existing municipal health agency that could hire nurses, and there's no one good to hire because the nurses are all burned out and the only people willing to be cops are power-trippers like Steed here.

I wish they'd save that zealotry for anti-corruption, traffic safety enforcement, and fining people who don't clear the fucking sidewalks when it snows. Y'know, all the illegal shit rich people (i.e. anyone who owns property in this city) get away with that makes society worse for everyone.

As for dealing with the homeless, keep the cops out of it unless there's actual force needed, and even then can we keep the guns out of it?
