Innocent Bystander - 2007-08-16
Hell's yeah! I barely remember this movie existed until now!
All the CGI in the world can never achieve the strangely unnerving quality of stop-motion animation.

All right. 20 seconds before the end, I heard a scream I recognized, and sure enough, it's the scream from Nine Inch Nails' "The Becoming." What I think is especially funny is the song starts "I beat my machine." Har har!

Who would have thought that sitting in bleachers a few hundred yards from gigantic battling robots would be so dangerous?

I actually BOUGHT that on VHS (at a severe discount rate!) from my local video club. Worse yet, I have the french dubbing of it. This movie is SOOO bad, cheap and ridiculous, it's quite hilarious. Go have a ball and rent it NOW.
You will never catch Tex Conway alive. Period.

I fucking loved this movie as a kid. I'd lumber around saying "clear the gantry gantry gantry HARD TO KEEP SECRETS IN THIS BUSINESS TOO MANY DAYYUM SPIES!" Eventually they put me on medication.
I love this movie. I love it so much I am offended people are calling it cheap or bad.

I like how the charred teddy bear is a more potent symbol of his failure than the mangled human corpses. Good job saving those guys from the fist, captain!

This is pretty much the pinnacle of the whole 1980s Charles Band/Albert Band series of fantastically awful sci-fi movies. There was a semi-sequel made later called "Crash and Burn" which was set in the same universe, sorta-ish. Not that anyone really cared.

Obligatory five stars. I rented this movie on a weekly basis as a kid. They finally put out a DVD not too long ago.
Awesome giant robot combat, and stop-motion to boot. This and the ED-209 fight from Robocop are where it's at.
Also: random Jeffrey Combs appearance as the one of the two betting guys.

This was loosely based off of the 1955 Le Mans disaster.

Pretty terrible place to put your bleachers. I mean, come on.

Fact: there has never been a single non-horrible plot or piece of fiction utilizing mechs.
Also, good job causing MORE damage than if the flying fist had just hit it, hero.

The whole thing is available (while supplies last) in chunks on youtube, I just watched it. My mom would never rent this for me as a child, all my nerdy friends went on and on about how awesome this was, but I was excluded.
WHO'S LAUGHING NOW MOM? (me, I am laughing)
As a side note, I like how they kept with the whole ancient greek theme in making the love interest a twelve year old boy.

This movie was completely wasted by me not watching it when I was eleven

Crash and burn, Achilles. Crash and burn. It's too bad about all those mildly attractive muslim ladies, though.
