I think this movie is OK until the angel shows up. Wouldn't be considered a classic if it hadn't fallen into the public domain.

this is just one of those movies that's been dubbed "a classic" by human parrots for so long, that the regurgitated praise is accepted as fact - despite the movie sucking pretty hard

Is it a good movie because it was a spirit-lifting film that appeals to the every man's values or just because it's been played every freakin' Christmas and people have convinced themselves that it must be good? I think we'll be asking the same question about A Christmas Story in a few more years.
