I think that I might disagree with your description.

Millard - 2008-07-29

Every news site I've seen this on has had the same mouth-breathers going "WELL HE MUST'VE DONE SOMETHING TRULY EVIL OFF CAMERA FOR THIS TO HAPPEN".

Conveniently forgetting that the cop's report was that the biker rammed into him on purpose, and that the cop has been suspended.

Cleaner82 - 2008-07-29

Ah cameras, the bane of corrupt police officers everywhere.

Dicknuts - 2008-07-29

Does anyone else find it deliciously ironic that the ubiquitous Orwellian video surveillance of society (youtube) has actually proven to work mostly against da man rather than for him?

Aelric - 2008-07-29

It's not a question of the technology itself being evil, but rather it's operators. And I think between YouTube and wiretaping, it's kinda evened out.

I guess.

Blaise - 2008-07-29

Check out the comments here ... the degree to which American conservatives will rationalize state violence simply amazes me.

chumbucket - 2008-07-29

woman in blue slowly turns around and asks.."wha happened?"

Hugo Gorilla - 2008-07-29

The cop's an asshole, but so are Critical Mass nimrods. Five stars for everybody.

Cap'n Profan!ty - 2008-07-29

Nimrods or no, if they are not actually breaking the law, what's the damn problem?

badideasinaction - 2008-07-29

You've obviously never seen a Critical Mass ride if you think laws aren't being broken. You know, things like stop signs, red lights and pedestrians having the right-of-way, those things.

I find it ironic that the CM riders howl about how cars giving cyclists no respect but when CM gets underway, they do the same thing to pedestrians - ignore them, drive as if they're not they, and if you're in their way, they yell at you. In other words, they treat pedestrians exactly how they don't want to be treated by cars. Critical mass wants respect, they can do their ride while obeying the fucking rules of the road; they still get the message across and they don't open themselves to an obvious point of criticism of them.

Hugo Gorilla - 2008-07-29

I'm being facetious. Blocking traffic and riding your bike like a self-appointed Captain Planet doesn't compare to battery and abuse of police authority.

My problem with these Mass Critical gatherings is the attitude of entitlement and outright snobbery the cyclists bring along with them. I live in a rural area and if you think these guys are jerks for blocking city traffic at intersections, try driving around a pack of them on congested and narrow country highways that don't have the room to accommodate and the traffic isn't crawling from stop light to stop light.

Camonk - 2008-07-29

I'm not being facetious at all when I say that this cop deserves a medal. I'm really not. This video gave me a boner. I'm sorry that this brave peace officer had to suffer. Oh well I hope that critical mass fuckhead broke his stupid balls off.

baleen - 2008-07-29

As an eternal pedestrian I despise critical mass, but this guy wasn't doing anything wrong, besides the people who go to times square usually aren't real people, they spontaneously generate by TGI Friday's buffets across America and convene in an unholy congress of fat to make new yorkers' lives miserable.

FABIO - 2009-08-28

Entitlement and outright snobbery aint limited to Critical Mass bicyclists.

zatojones - 2008-07-29

haha hope it hurt Masshole.

favorited because I enjoy seeing these dickholes get their shit wrecked

jesustweak - 2008-07-29

It is too bad they cut away before the NYPD plunger rape special, because if you like this, then you would really get off watching Massholes get their shitholes wrecked. Is it exciting to know that this could happen to anyone... maybe even you?

phalsebob - 2008-07-29

Fight the power, zato.

Camonk - 2008-07-29

Look I'm as against police brutality as anybody. But critical mass people totally deserve to have their shit wrecked. No, the cop shouldn't have done it, but he did and it's awesome.

zatojones - 2008-07-30

Hating Critical Mass is not fighting the power unless you consider a group of self important "bicycle revolutionaries" whose best efforts do little more than piss ordinary people off for a few hours every month or so a power. Which it isn't.

dr_rock - 2008-08-02

zatojones is just mad that the Critical Mass people laughed at his penny-farthing.

Justin Dohrmann - 2008-07-29

I still need more info. That guy COULD have been doing anything, or he could have been doing nothing.

futurebot - 2008-07-29

This whole tape COULD in fact be staged...I, too, absolutely refuse to make any judgments based on the evidence at hand.

waxeater - 2008-07-29

This is just going to make these Critical Mass faggots even more annoying.

StanleyPain - 2008-07-29

The cops actually arrested this guy and kept him locked up for more than a day for "Assaulting an officer." Contrary to Critical Mass idiots trying to make themselves look good (as usual), the cop hasn't been fired. THe case is pending with the biker's lawyer working on getting the video admitted as evidence.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-07-29

Not knowing what the hell Critical Mass is, all I see is an NYPD officer picking one bicyclist out of the crowd and shoving said biker into the curb for no readily apparent reason.

I remember the days before 9/11, when people were within their reasons for hating NYC cops almost as much as the LAPD. I hope those times are here again, and the two can once again duel for the title of Most Corrupt Metropolitan Police Force In America.

StanleyPain - 2008-07-29

Critical Mass is a dumbshit "protest" staged yearly in certain cities by cyclists. It started out as this in-your-face thing about giving bikers room on the road and acknowledging that bikes are vehicles too, but it quickly took on the usual, pat-self-on-back-repeatedly-and-loudly tone of people turning into an environmental thing because bikers are better than you if you drive a car. So, they clog the streets and cause massive transportation problems for one day apparently to make people give them attention, er...I mean....wake up to environmental causes.

Desidiosus - 2008-07-29

I would be fine with knocking him down if it wasn't done by a cop.

Enjoy - 2008-07-29

Yeah that's the key. I wish it was just someone walking across the street who body checked a masshole instead of the cop.

Thatcher Pennywhistle - 2008-07-29

Cops are people too.

Billie_J_Buttfuck - 2008-07-29

Cops are people who need to respect laws, too.

glasseye - 2008-07-29

It's a weekly ride in Seattle.

Fezren - 2008-07-30

He very clearly is accellerating towards the police officer. His bicycle riding is clearly dangerous to himself and others, and he should be stripped of the priveledge.

They should give the Cop a damn medal. That bicyclist could have killed somebody.

waxeater - 2008-07-29

"During his arrest, Long squirmed and kicked, saying to the officers, 'You are pawns in the game. I'm gonna have your job,' the complaint said."

I can't believe people that aren't supervillians speak like this. Then again - Critical Mass.

Cleaner82 - 2008-07-29

If he were a supervillain he'd have ended with, "Vengeance will be mine!" instead.

Screwtape - 2008-07-29

My hatred of dirty hippies justifies police brutality!

bac - 2008-07-29

well...doesn't it?

zatojones - 2008-07-29

in the case of Critical Mass, yes

bac - 2008-07-29

I hope something very bad happens to you.

zatojones - 2008-07-29

Like maybe the ambulance that is taking me to the hospital after a car accident is hung up in traffic created by a Critical Mass "demonstration" and I die? That would show me!

jesustweak - 2008-07-29

How about a group of people who know you only through your online stupidity cheer as you are plunger raped by the NYPD.

bac - 2008-08-03

You know what zeta fuck you. Piece of shit pig brutality apologist.
I jerk off to the sound of you whining about people riding their bikes.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2009-07-31

HAha, our local black-dude is ZA-TO-I-CHI JONES. Nobody would know it if he didn't make it evident.

BOOSH - 2008-07-29

Before these comments turn into a Youtube worthy pissfest, can we all just agree that everyone in the video is a dick?

CAN WE?

Billie_J_Buttfuck - 2008-07-29

I'm in.

bac - 2008-08-03

No because this place is still generally more intellige...ahahahahha.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-09-02

And we used to be such smart, witty people, back in Ye Olde Portal O' Evil Red Tyme.

Ranma X. - 2008-07-29

While I'm not really anti-cop like some folks are, it somehow doesn't surprise me that the cop in question (Patrick Pogan) was a rookie, though it is surprising a third generation cop wouldn't know better.

And since we're taking quotes, according to a quote from Bill Paola, a director of Times Up, which organizes the CM rides in the NYT "He got up and was dazed. They put their knees on top of his head and were smashing him into a phone booth.”

I can see why some of you guys are annoyed with Critical Mass (especially you guys from Seattle), but their rides have been ruled legal by the state in 2006 and they do it regularly (monthly, twice a month if you count Brooklyn) so I don't see why people have sticks up their ass about it. Seriously, you guys sound like a New York Post Editorial.

SolRo - 2008-07-29

Did you ever think he might be the 3rd in a line of corrupt cops? Not go-to-jail-for-helping-the-mob corrupt, but corrupt enough to abuse lawful protesters.

Also; BICYCLISTS ARE SELF-INTITLED JACKASSES THAT ONLY CARE ABOUT THEMSELVES! (note how i'm not being a hypocritical idiot when saying that)

RockBolt - 2008-07-29

Critical Mass douche gets checked off his bike and a cop being a dick gets documented being a dick. A+

Cleaner82 - 2008-07-29

That's the proper way to think about it. Whoever loses, we win.

homohabilis - 2008-09-11

boosh!

Dinky Patterson - 2008-07-29

If that was a squirrel, or an actual pig, then he would've braked.

Frostilicus - 2008-07-29

Critical Mass in NYC is nowhere near as disruptive as the huge piggy bastards in the nypd. Please, take it on my anecdotal evidence, for I am a new yorker.

Princess v2.1 - 2008-07-29

Asshole, meet asshole

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-07-29

I am baffled by some of the hate here. I'm not a Critical Mass fan but this is blatant unprovoked violence and that officer should be outright fired, not suspended.

Hooker - 2008-07-29

It's illegal to take a baseball bat to Andy Dick, but wouldn't you cheer it anyway?

Cleaner82 - 2008-07-29

No... suspended is nessecary... but suspended is fine.

Hooker - 2008-07-29

Fuck Mass!

1394 - 2008-07-29

Pity it wasn't someone on a fixed gear.

Goethe and ernie - 2008-09-27

Exactly what I came here to post. Fuck "fixies" and every skinny-jeaned motherfucker who rides one.

Midnight Man - 2008-07-30

This video is down, I'm five starring because the description made me laugh :)

coprolalia - 2008-07-30

Yeah, what're they gonna do about it?

Oh.

HarveyTibbar - 2008-12-15

Police officer had to think, "Who the hell would be filming a goddamn bike marathon anyways?"

Seriously of all the things that could be put to film, this seemed unlikely enough.

Namor - 2009-04-02

If the police would only take out their sociopathic urges on critical mass riders, I think most of us would be willing to give them a pass.
