Steven: Can I get a knife or fork?
Wench: There were no utensils in medieval times, hence there are no utensils AT Medieval Times. Would you like a refill on that Pepsi?
Steven: There were no utensils but there was Pepsi?
Wench: Dude, I got a lot of tables.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-05-11 One of the only memorable parts of Cable Guy.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-05-11 Spoiler: If you ask for utensils, they give you utensils.
|
SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-05-11 Spoiler: It's from a movie. Also, you've been uber-pedantic lately. Go get laid or something.
|
THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-05-11 I'm aware, man. All work and no play makes Sugah a meticulous prick.

Old_Zircon - 2012-05-11
Of course their locations are in California, Florida, New Jersey, Illinois and Texas.
|
SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-05-11 Texas always surprises me when it comes to Ye Olde Stuffe. They're in a kind of constant war with Minnesota for who has the biggest Renaissance Festival.
The obvious joke is that the conservatives in the state think the Wild West is too liberal and want to take Texas back to feudal times, but I'm not going there.

Bario Park, CA, my hometown.

If they still had mullets like that I'd go to one of these.

|
badideasinaction - 2012-05-11 We were there for a friend's birthday party two months ago. The blue knight had a mullet and a dirtstache.
After the show we asked another of the knights if the blue knight owned a trans-am, his response was to laugh for a second, then sorta hang his head and admit we weren't that far off.

The Mothership - 2012-05-11
As POEtv's resident medieval historian (unless there are others?) I must point out a few things:
They conflate the 11th century and the 14th.
The tournament or 'tourney' began as an all-out brawl where many died, and was only formalized and dulled-down after complaints made by the church. Only later did it become a ceremonial occasion for young aristocrats to show off to the girls and win prizes.
I enjoyed the 'kill the infidel!' bit towards the end.
This is popularized, schlocky suburban historytainment, but it and other quasi-medieval crap like Game of Thrones keeps the kids interested in taking my classes, and me in a job.

The Mothership - 2012-05-11 I will thank you very much for not comparing medieval history to Japanese pop culture.

Cena_mark - 2012-05-11 Who'd win a knight or a samurai?

|
memedumpster - 2012-05-11 So there's no such thing as a diesel knight like in Game of Thrones?
|
|
|
THA SUGAH RAIN - 2012-05-11 No one goes to MT or watches Game of Thrones looking for a history lesson. Pointing out its inaccuracies is kind of pointless.
|
Old_Zircon - 2012-05-11 Baldr, that article could have just said "a white woman with a Ph.D. in medieval history and an adjunct professor, came to rely on food stamps and Medicaid." and been more or less complete.
|
Baldr - 2012-05-11 I never thought anyone would read past the caption. Sorry about that. Sometimes I forget that non-academics don't know the Chronicle of Higher Education is a giant navel-gazing machine designed for people who secretly suspect they're the only sentient form of life on the planet.
|
SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-05-11 SUGAH is just ticked because they didn't give him his fork and Pepsi refill.
|
baleen - 2012-05-11 The only jobs that mean anything are oil frackers and marines. Everybody else go fuck yourselves and get off foodstamps because I don't understand what you're doing.

A few years back was visiting Disney Land with a friend and his wife. She was having a mental break down, shaved her head at Long Beach and hitched a ride with random motorist outside the motel. Her Medieval Times ticket was refundable for non alcoholic items. Ended up decked out in worth of blue knight attire and he won, coincidence?

Cena_mark - 2012-05-11
I'm sure most people's first exposure to Medieval Times was The Cable Guy.
