Sadly, the vast majority of Americans see this as a "self-solving problem."

ashtar. - 2023-01-22

I've narcan'd a fair number of people. Then it's just like "hey call this number and get some help... lol just kidding see you next week (if you're lucky and someone calls)." Like, the war on drugs was bad, but we've replaced it with just nothing; no penalties but also no help. Just let people die.

SolRo - 2023-01-22

Doesn’t get more American than expecting people to live or die on their own merits.

Hand out some bootstraps when you’re reviving people. Problem solved.

Gmork - 2023-01-22

And reward those who didn't bring their own bootstraps? Unthinkable.

ashtar. - 2023-01-22

If we give them bootstaps they'll just use them to tie off to find a vein.

(kidding! everyone smokes fent percs now.)

Gmork - 2023-01-22

in texas a lot of folks are pretty sure theres an arsonist going around setting fires trying to kill homeless people but not a lot about it on the news

Binro the Heretic - 2023-01-22

I swear there was a Dickens story that ended with a guy setting fire to all the mansions of the wealthy.

SolRo - 2023-01-23

Texas and Florida are two states I’d have zero surprise about having some rich serial killer hunting the homeless.

I’d be even less surprised that the local media and police wouldn’t give a shit about it.

Crackersmack - 2023-01-23

Yeah because the police in blue states treat the homeless with so much respect and empathy.

Crab Mentality - 2023-01-23

Fuck your faux indignant outrage, crackersmack.

cognitivedissonance - 2023-01-23

Oh no, random opinion on a disused artifact website slams the liberals, activity screeches to a halt while the three people left on this website frantically call their Communist handlers for further talking points from Beijing, stymied at long last by diligent shitposter who just kept pluggin’. Freedom to own a dirty bomb under the Second Amendment salvaged, Presidential Medal of Freedom dispatched by Real Secret President John F. “John-John” Kennedy, Jr.

Yo ashy, you from here? Just curious about a dialogue. I'll dox myself: Over the past decade or so I've lived on the Hill, CD, and Wallingford/Fremont (I refuse the Wallingfree portmanteau).

Seattle crew roll call. I just moved here from Boston about a year ago.

My $0.02 on this particular topic is, yeah, the flagrat opiate use out in public is absolutely insane to me. It's rare that I go a week without seeing somebody smoking fent on the link or shooting up at a bus stop. No idea why it's like this here but not Boston. Both cities have pretty similar politics and are about the same size.

exy - 2023-01-23

seattlite poesters and ex-poesters are legion. we're like half this fuckin site.

i'm slow. it took me til the 99 WTO skull-crackin' to see the SPD for the jackbooted thugs that they are. the only thing I dislike about PNW life is the deep-ass racism that seemingly wrapped around the map from the SE corner.

betamaxed - 2023-01-24

sup my fellow seattle poesters

yogarfield - 2023-01-27

@ashy You a Bremmie?

@sputum, you get used to it. I've personally seen maybe a dozen fires IRL; I think there were almost 400 last year alone. The city has massively failed on mental health and housing. You just have to learn to not care. Or to put it better: Not caring will learn you.

I see a "gonna cross the street because this dude doesn't know what planet he's on" type every day.

re: poe, I was on here before I moved to Seattle, but the reason there are so many locals is because this site was spawned by good ol' Chet before he went to grab some cigarettes. Baleen was from here as well.

ashtar. - 2023-02-10

Yeah. It sucks, but better than a lot of places. Getting less affordable and there's an expanding untouchable lumpen underclass, like a lot of places.
