I recommend Hank III's Straight To Hell. It is a masterpiece.

In addition to the Hank III, I might recommend country artists such as Jason Isbell, Drive By Truckers, and the Turnpike Troubadours. There's good stuff out there.

In particular, the Dirty South by the Drive By Truckers is a postmodern deconstruction of the mythology of the south.

They think small towns resemble Mayberry. They think Mayberry represented something real. I love the Andy Griffith Show as much as anyone raised in the south in the 90s watching reruns at 6:05 on TBS, but too many people seem to think it's a documentary.
