Alright David, thanks for coming on the show!

Scattersane - 2008-03-23

I continue to be impressed by how Thorpe doesn't break character, but I'm pretty sure the host had to be in on the joke. That awkward pause at the end is just a little too perfectly timed.

Hodge - 2008-03-23

I stopped watching after I heard: "If it's floating around on the net and it's funny chances are it came from something Awful". Biggest lie ever.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-03-23

Boy, that site sure is something awf...

Frank Rizzo - 2008-03-24

how is this not a dupe!!!!

Monchiles Monchiles - 2008-03-24

I am likewise suprised that this hasn't been on this site for months.

Aelric - 2008-03-24

so poe all of a sudden doesn't hate something awful? as a duel citizen, i've seen nothing but animosity from both sides.

Midnight Man - 2008-03-24

A DUEL citizen?

Aelric - 2008-03-24

oh, AYE!! choose your weapon!

theSnake - 2008-03-24

Something Awful isn't funny and the people that like it are more pathetic that 4chan btards because at least you can browse that free and from time to time there are cat pictures.

andru strange - 2008-03-24

fuck your cats. i'm going to something awful. not really, but poe really is too gay, now. goodbye foreva, niggers!

Cap'n Profan!ty - 2008-03-24

what planet are you from?

andru strange - 2008-03-24

planet yo'mamma's pussaaayyy...

KnowFuture - 2008-03-24

Photoshop Phriday is usually pretty funny.

I'll stick with PoE and continue spending ridiculous amounts of money on beer, though.

andru strange - 2008-03-24

the only thing i've ever really found funny on SA was the recent 'leaked diablo cody' screen play... why on earth would anyone pay for forums?

Cinnamon Imperialist - 2008-03-24

I love SA's forums BECAUSE of how stupid and gross the average goon is. Whenever a news story pops up the other side will be defended, be in necrophilia or pedophilia, some guy will go "If I lived 5 miles closer I'd go and punch that guy's lights out!" when talking about the murder/rapist/whatever, and then the discussion will breakdown into bitter 1-on-1s until mods lock the thread. Their comic book forum actually made it a bannable offense to talk about what character should pair up with which, it was the ramapant.

RandomFerret - 2008-04-14

GUYS YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO GO TO ONE WEBSITE EVER

cognitivedissonance - 2008-03-24

somethingisawful.com

Panasonic Relapse - 2008-03-24

I'm pretty sure that the start of the video is the last second of Westwood college's "Tighten up the graphics" commercial. That speculation alone deserves five stars.

SARS - 2008-03-24

SA is pretty awesome... but its base concepts were ripped off from old school PoE and its [once powerful] affiliates.
Unlike Poe these days, it seems SA's users and admin are more directly involved in influencing current internet culture (photoshop phriday, etc) as Chet and Erik, and K.Thor and even that fag Seanbaby were back in the very late 90's.
With the exception of the occasional gem, to the likes of TIME CUBE, these days it seems PoE is an automated machine that churns tirelessly away, while its founders go get real jobs.

Having lost some of their zeal, the founders of PoE and friends have left the door open for some great sites; one being ED - despite acting as the soppy cum-rag to catch 4chans self-indulgent mess - it also serves as one of our most important cultural databases, and will one day *usurp the role of PoE as we know it today (*see Ed's ever-growing fiendfolio).

The fact ED and 4chan can mobilize so many people around the world to partake in both online and IRL events is, to myself anyway, a strong indicator that they are the future and should be embraced accordingly.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2008-03-24

I'm kind of glad PoE isn't getting the kind of exposure as SA is getting.

SARS - 2008-03-24

Yeah: over-exposure brings the wrong people into the mix; that cling to popular sites as though they were trends.

Midnight Man - 2008-03-24

Yeah thank God we don't have any horrible people on the poe sites

Dicknuts - 2008-03-24

One day internet history will be a respected form of academia. Also, cocks.

SARS - 2008-03-24

the horrible people on poe seem to be, for the most part, just trolls. Or at least even if they're terrible people, they still seem to have a glimmer of intellect behind their words... Above, I was alluding to the sort of people at like CANIHAZCHEEZBURGER.com (or whatever it's called) who raped the "culture" and, like ebaumsworld, gave it fatal AIDs; people like 35+ year old women sending forwards

Aelric - 2008-03-24

for what it's worth, here are my two cents: the poe sites have always been my rock as far as the internet goes, from my long history as a simple lurker to my totally irrelevant postings now. by that, i mean that of the entire internet-o-sphere, this is the only place that seems to have a self-enforced standard of quality, particularly here at poetv, of being consistently funny and eventually weeding out the trolls without going into the money grub that something awful implemented to boot out the riff raff.

that said, something awful's money grub policy also totally worked, as i see plenty of funny shit coming out of their forums (and once upon a time: their features) while the trolls are kicked out promptly and ten bucks poorer.

so, when it all comes down, i'll still visit both, because c'mon guys, who cares whether you are harkonen or atreides? we are all here to waste our lives away anyway by watching adorable kittens and horrific tragedy.

Modern Angel - 2008-03-24

I think you assholes are thinking too hard about this.

Adramelech - 2008-03-24

Or you could argue that "mobilizing" people over dumb shit on the internet is venturing into SERIOUS BUSINESS territory and that making fun of people who take dumb shit too seriously is a big part of PoE. There was and is a reason for the Prime Directive.

"Mobilizing" a group of unfunny assholes to play a Rick Astley song on a street corner is about as remarkable as a furry convention. There's no such thing as a good internet subculture.

cognitivedissonance - 2008-03-24

I think it's also that we just don't like black people.

Chet - 2008-03-24

I prefer somethingawful.com

Aelric - 2008-03-24

you crack me up, little buddy

Modern Angel - 2008-03-24

CHET HAS SPOKEN

Smellvin - 2008-03-24

Fark > SomethingAwful

Chancho - 2008-03-24

David Thorpe, the smug record-store employee, should stick to working in retail.

baleen - 2008-03-24

FUCKING ANCIENT YOU PEOPLE
and a dupe

citrusmirakel - 2008-03-25

Ancient? Perhaps.
Dupe? Prove it.

FABIO2 - 2008-03-24

Occasionally there will be a funny photoshop phriday bit, but most of SA's stuff is a bunch of really pointless articles that read like Onion pieces (minus the amusing headline). The majority of jokes are lazy metaphors THIS MOVIE IS WORSE THAN POKING OUT YOUR GENITALIA WITH A MAGGOT INFESTED RED HOT POKER.

waxeater - 2008-03-24

After seeing what this dude looks like, it all makes total sense.
